Water spots?

How frustrating is it to wash your car on a beautiful sunny day only to have it dry with MILLIONS of water spots?  You think to yourself, this doesn’t seem to happen when I take it for a car wash at the gas station.  Most people think its an issue with the soap they used or how dirty the car may have been to start with.  GUESS AGAIN: It’s the water, yes that’s right, the water.

Water has minerals in it and these minerals are responsible for the spotting we see when our car dries in the hot sun.  When you go through a car wash, you drive past the blower at the end, the purpose is to blow the water away from the clean surface so that there is no water left to dry and show spotting.  Shammys are used with the same intention, to remove the water from the vehicle before the water dries.

Depending on where you live, your tap water produces water with a range of minerals mixed into the water source and this range is measured by parts per million.  For me, my tap water is roughly 200 parts per million.  To be able to clean your car and have it dry spot free, you would need to filter the tap water and remove the minerals to a calculation of 10 parts per million or less.

If you enjoy washing your car at home on a Sunday afternoon, make sure to remove the water with a shammy or other lint free towel before the water dries and use any soap recommended for cars.  If you can park in area that receives shade, it will give you more time to dry the car without the spotting.

Window Cleaning makes home more Efficient in [Cambridge]

Did you know that cleaning your windows will actually make your home more efficient??????

Most windows have coatings on the glass to make them retain heat in the winter and keep your home cool in the summer. This coating can break down if left dirty over a long period of time. By cleaning your windows on an annual basis you can preserve this coating and make your home more efficient.

How often should they be cleaned?????

This is a tricky question to answer. It depends on where your live. Here in Cambridge we are an aired climate. This means we have a lot more dust blowing around. We also have quite a few new housing developments going on, which means there is a lot more open dirt constructions zones adding to that dusty air. We would recommend 2 times a year to make sure at least the outside windows are kept clean and the dirty dusty air will be kept off the coated windows for a long period of time.

Window Cleaning Tip's in [Cambridge]

After the long winter months, we love nothing more than opening the windows to let in the crisp spring air here in Cambridge. We don't consider the fact that the dirty and dingy screens mess with the air quality not to mention the dirt and debris stuck to the screens that can blow into the house. Clean screens will help keep coughing to a minimum and let in all that fresh air we have been missing. Here are some tips on how to clean your screens. Techniques differ depending on how dirty they are.
If your screen is only slightly dusty with minimum debris I would recommend keeping the screens on and using a lint brush, this is a gentle way to clean them with minimal work involved.
If your vacuum cleaner has a soft brush attachment you can run the brush softly along the screen to suck up any unwanted dust.

if this doesn't work  it's time to remove the screens

If your screens have dirt caked on I would recommend taking them outside and wetting them first with your garden hose then using a soft cloth and a mixture of vinegar and water to help remove any debris, for harder to remove gunk you can use a mixture of water and dish soap, don't push too hard though!  Then rinse the screen and lightly tap it to remove access water. allow to dry completely  before you put them back on the windows.
